Properties, types and uses of cotton twill fabrics Jun 01, 2018

Cotton twill fabrics are a class of all-over fabrics, and the so-called diagonal twills are a kind of diagonal line structure where the interweaving points of warps and wefts present a certain angle on the fabric surface. Therefore, the structure of the cotton twill weave fabric is characterized by the sloping lines formed by the organization points or the weft tissue points on the tissue map, and the oblique weave patterns formed by the long lines of latitude or longitude on the surface of the fabric.

The twill-weave tissue loop has at least 3 warp yarns and 3 weft yarns, usually a cotton fabric with a diagonal pattern on both sides and a 45° left oblique; the front diagonal pattern is obvious, and the opposite of the variegated twill weave is not obvious. As the number of warp and weft yarns is close, the density is slightly higher than the weft density, so the hand feel is softer than the card.

Compared with other fabrics, the obvious advantage of cotton twill fabric is that it is easy to keep warm, and it is very soft, hygroscopic and breathable. However, it should be noted that clothing made from full twill fabrics tends to shrink and wrinkle, and therefore must be ironed when worn.

Twill fabrics currently available in the market can be divided into two major categories, namely, coarse twill and fine twill, in which the twill weave is made of cotton yarns of number 32 or higher for warp and weft yarns, and the fine twill weave of cotton yarns below 18 is used for warp and weft yarns. The two fabrics have different characteristics and therefore apply to different aspects.

From the perspective of color, it can be found that twill fabrics have white, bleached, and mottled colors, and are commonly used in uniforms, sportswear, sports shoe clips, emery cloth backings, and spacers. The wide-format bleached twill can be used as a sheet and can be used as a bed sheet after printing. The color and variegated fine twill cloths are finished with electro-optic or calendering, and can be used as umbrellas and clothing clips.

Note that the twill fabrics have positive and negative points, with less interweaving points within a complete tissue cycle, longer float lines, softer feel, higher density of tissue fabrics, thicker products, and stronger stereoscopic perception. It has 30, 40, and 60 branches. We can choose according to actual needs.
